When La Mer's founder, Dr. Max Huber, suffered burns in a lab accident, he was convinced the regenerative properties of the sea might hold the key to improving the look of his skin. He found the answer in the pristine waters of a nutrient-rich kelp forest in the Pacific.

Timing is alles. Dr. Huber observed that lunar cycles and tides affect the renewal rate of natural sea kelp.

In the marine-protected waters off the coast of Vancouver, La Mer's sea kelp is hand harvested twice a year, placed on ice and rushed to the La Mer labs to help keep its nutrients optimized.
